Partner - Mining, Energy & Infrastructure
Michael Morton is a senior mining executive and Site Senior Executive (SSE) with more than 14 years of leadership experience across underground and open-cut operations. He has a proven track record in driving operational transformation and delivery of strong safety, financial, and production outcomes in high-risk environments, including leading complex mine restarts.
Recognised for his expertise in statutory compliance, safety and health management systems (SHMS), and emergency response, Michael is known for building high-performing teams and fostering strong safety cultures. His leadership spans operational optimisation, cost efficiency, regulatory engagement, and large-scale organisational change.
Michael has held executive leadership roles across major operations in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, including General Manager positions overseeing integrated mining complexes with full P&L accountability. As SSE for Crinum Underground Mine, he successfully led a highly complex restart, scaling the workforce from 45 to over 200 personnel while establishing critical safety, training, and operational systems to achieve safe re-entry under regulatory oversight.
Before transitioning into mining, Michael served in the Australian Army and Queensland Police Service, including specialist roles in counter-terrorism and high-risk operations, where he developed the discipline, resilience, and leadership capabilities that continue to underpin his executive approach today.
